mossoró... tô de volta
today was supposed to be our big mission christmas conference but it was cancelled until further notice so we are still here. but i did get my christmas package and it was wonderful. i love the ties, i am eating lots of peanut butter every day, and the big paper tree was an excellent idea. very creative and now that its up on our wall with all the decorations it brings the christmas spirit to our house.
i am re-living a lot of the good and bad of mossoró, including endless mosquitos, enormous rats and frogs in our house, and heat like no other- i even found an old extra fan but even sleeping with 2 fans at my side i still spend the whole night sweating... but within a month or 2 it will cool down a little and maybe the rain will start. here it is rather difficult to get people to church because we live almost an hour away from the church. so we have been working hard this week and focusing on trying to get a lot of new people into our teaching group. we had 2 baptisms marked for sunday but one of them fell, and we ended up with Gabriel, who went to church last week and we taught him this week (picture). we still don't have too many people in our group but probably the best are a teenage girl, Ana Paula and her g-ma Fátima. Ana Paula is really interested and good thing cuz she is a really smart and nice girl, and understands the things we teach her and is reading everything we mark for her in the scriptures and praying and everything. her g-ma is not as into it but the problem with the 2 is getting them to church because of how distant it is.
our zone here is having a lot of difficulties, there are a lot of areas that are not baptizing and some harldy even teaching. so we have a lot of plans and have been doing a lot of follow-ups and divisions with them and its weird cuz almost every day i wake up in a different bed or have other missionaries sleeping over at our house and all that. so its fun but its a lot of work and we probably won't be able to have as much success in our own area this transfer because of concentrating on other areas and doing other things.
saturday night and sunday morning we had stake conference with about 10 other stakes here in the north-east, broadcast via satellite to the different chapels with elder scott and sister beck, who both speak portuguese (but not very well) and also president eyring, who had an interpreter. it was one of the absolute best conferences ever, the talks were awesome, esp. pres eyring, and i learned so much. then we also got to watch the 1st presidency devotional last night. i will get the number this week for you guys to call.

i think he's amazing.
living with mosquitos, rats and frogs . . . not fun.
but he works so hard and i'm sure is having such an impact in this new area.
he'll definitely teach them a thing or two about hard work!
and hooray! the christmas tree idea worked.
my bet is that drew's never made it out of the mission offices. little stinker.
Handsome Elder Sherwood is cleaning up the Zone. He is a fantastic example of going the 2nd and 3rd mile.
